Why did you get into lawncare?
From the Army to athletics through adventures, I have lived my life outdoors. There are many things you can do with a background in biology but working outdoors in a role where I can play a part as caretaker over a small part of our amazing planet was the perfect fit for me.
Starting in the golf course industry to becoming an owner of a lawn treatment company, I have been blessed with the opportunity to experience how all life (plants, animals and ourselves) are interconnected holistically. I’m humbled to have a role in elevating one microcosm of nature while also considering and planning for the beneficial effects of everything dependent and associated with it.
What is meant by the term "Turf Veteran"?
The term turf veteran is a double entendre. Not only am I an American Veteran of a Foreign War, I have also been in the turf business for a very long time, beginning in 1994 in the golf course industry. I’ve seen it all when it comes to turf.
What should I expect from the Turf Veteran?
You should expect results from the Turf Veteran. My mission is to quickly identify the lawn objective, determine a flexible plan of action, and launch an offensive program with the least amount of effort from the homeowner. I will achieve my objective through the employment of the best and latest technologies, the hiring and training of the best applicators in our region, the use of the right products at the right times all while communicating our operational plan to the customer using the most efficient methods available.
What kind of experience does the Turf Veteran bring to my lawn?
- One of three military job skills – CBRN-E (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives Specialist). Through training and in this capacity this job centered around understanding and applying battlefield command direction on chemical interactions, soil persistence, biological activity and contamination, weather patterns, chemical dissipation rates, wind fallout patterns and contamination rates. This skillset has proven to be a critical edge in the understanding of biology and on the ground chemical reactions and activity. I still use the wind pattern assessment protocols when determining equipment and spray rates as well as regional infestation patterns regarding weeds and insects.
- Golf Course Superintendent for an 18 hole regional championship level golf course. Designed all turf treatment programs to include fertilizer/chemical applications, mowing and equipment purchasing and management.
- Education: Bachelor of Science, Biology. Bachelor and Masters, Metaphysics.
- Veteran of the Persian Gulf War, Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Desert Farewell.
- Military Operational Skills: Military Police, CBRNE, Infantry.
